Galapagos Packing List

1. Digital Camera(s)
I cannot express how important this is! Even for people who don't like to take pictures, there will be so many opportunities in the Galapagos! I recommend taking a digital camera for daily use and also taking a second one just in case the first one breaks.  I also recommend investing in an underwater digital camera.  I really enjoyed using mine throughout the trip, and ended up using it as my main camera on land too.

2. Water shoes
We had quite a few wet landings, so bring some shoes that you can easily get wet and still be comfortable walking/hiking in.  I recommend bringing a pair that you can leave because they get pretty gross by the end of the trip.  (I bought a pair of water shoes for $7 at Wal Mart)

3. Old Sneakers
Same problem as the water shoes-they get pretty smelly by the end of the trip, so I left my sneakers too.  It works out well if you either bring an old pair, or buy a cheap pair you don't care if you lug  home or not.

4. 2 bathing suits
We snorkeled daily, and depending on the weather, sometimes the first suit wasn't completely dry before we had to snorkel again.  Unless you enjoy the feeling of a semi-wet bathing suit, I recommend bringing two.

5. 10-12 old t shirts
We did a lot of hiking and by then end of the day, no one wanted to re wear clothes if we didn't have to.  Again, it's nice if you bring old clothes that you can throw away which makes room in your luggage for the trip home.

6. 1 sweatshirt/pair of sweat pants
I get cold easily, and on the boat at night, it can get kind of windy.  I was very glad I could pull on my sweats and remain comfortable while sitting up on the boat deck

7. SUNSCREEN
I went through almost two full tubes of it throughout the trip.  Bring more than you think you'll need and you will be happy you have extra!

8. Hat/sunglasses
This is a must! Because it is so sunny, without these, hiking would not be as enjoyable

9. Waterbotle
I enjoyed having one that I could refill.

10. One nice dress/shirt and bottoms
I liked getting a little bit dressed up (and by that I just mean not grungy shorts and a tank top) when we spent a few days in Puerto Ayora.  I felt more comfortable in restaurants when I had semi decent clothes on.

11. A good attitude
My best advice is to "roll with the punches" You're in the Galapagos after all!! Just enjoy it and go with the flow.  No one appreciates being with a complainer on such a small boat so be flexible as plans change or things don't go as they were originally planned.
